Chef Bios

The cooks behind every cookout.

Brandon Talansky

Brandon Talansky

Chef BT

BT is COL's three-time champion and the chef every table hopes to draw. Years in downtown San Diego's fine dining scene gave him range — he moves easily between refined technique and food that still feels like home cooking. His versatility is what keeps him on top.

Trevor Bowman

Trevor Bowman

Chef Tbow

A former champion and one of COL's original chefs, Trevor trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa and spent six years cooking professionally before joining the league. He's known for patient, low-and-slow technique — braises and smokes that reward the wait. Expect precision, not shortcuts.

Josh Hainley

Josh "Yosh" Hainley

The Home Chef

An original COL competitor, Josh built his skills the hard way — self-taught, cooking nights and weekends around a full-time job as a tradesman. That's where "The Home Chef" comes from, and it shows in his food: comfort classics done right, plus slow-cooked dishes that taste like they took all day, because they did.

Kolby Smith

Kolby Smith

Wild Card

Kolby joined COL as a Wild Card chef in the Winter 2025 Classic and immediately made a run at the title, landing 2nd place in his first outing. Outside the league, he owns Saucy Slice, a pizza shop known for its Detroit-style pies — a passion for dough and baking that carries straight into his dessert game.
